Post-Doctoral Fellowship / Faculty-track Internship in Health Technology Assessment and Pharmacoeconomics

The Programs for Assessment of Technologies in Health (PATH) Research Institute, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton / McMaster University, invites applications for a 1-3 year Post-Doctoral Fellowship / Faculty-track Internship in Health Technology Assessment (HTA) and Pharmacoeconomics. Under the supervision of Professor Ron Goeree, Director of PATH and Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, McMaster University, this position can include a part-time faculty appointment teaching in the internationally renowned Health Research Methodology (HRM) Graduate Program at McMaster University.

This is a unique opportunity for a person who has just completed a doctorate or, in exceptional cases, a Master’s degree in health economics or a related quantitative discipline to gain practical experience of economic evaluation methods as applied to medicines and other medical technologies. The primary mode of learning will be active collaboration with researchers in PATH on a variety of methodologic and applied questions in economic evaluation. A major focus will be on developing quantitative methods in the areas of both decision/disease modelling and trial-based evaluation. On-going methodologic research at PATH includes techniques for analysis of uncertainty in cost-effectiveness data and use of contingent valuation for cost-benefit analysis.

The Fellowship will be based at the PATH Research Institute, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton / McMaster University. PATH was established in 2003 and is comprised of multidisciplinary faculty and staff with primary appointments in the Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at McMaster University. PATH’s research projects are grant-funded from peer-reviewed agencies, government and industry.

The fellowship is full time, commencing September 1, 2010 for 1-3 years, and is intended for candidates who have completed their graduate studies. The fellowship stipend is set at a very competitive rate and includes a research allowance for travel, conferences and educational supplies of up to $10,000 per award year.
